Up and down in the Mendips. 41

With a very possible cancellation of the Old Gits Friday Ride, due to the gales and heavy rain forecast,  I should take the opportunity to get out and about whilst today's weather and forecast is pretty reasonable.   With battery fully charged, headed off into the Mendips to take on some of the less visited roads.  Found some lesser used roads after going out through Hutton, Banwell and Winscombe.  After climbing up to the A38 trunk road, turned off and ascended higher through Rowberrow before dropping into Shipham and the Community Cafe there.  On the profile below that would be the little blip half way up the left side of the big 'lump'.

A lady on the next table took this photo.  No bread pudding today, just a modest little butterfly cake and a cuppa. Some bloke walking by engaged me in a chat about the benefits of e-bikes and then exclaimed that as a life long aero modeller that was the way that model engines have gone.  No more tiny petrol engines, the new lithium batteries make it far more practical and manageable than petrol.

Carried on climbing from Shipham (515 feet) up to Charterhouse at 890 feet. Part of this was on a 16% gradient that the highest level of assistance tackled OK.  Was still a bit breathless at the top but don't tell the doctor.  From there it was down to Cheddar where I exceeded 33 mph on the 2 1/2 mile descent.  It was an easy ride back to Weston through Axbridge (and another cup of tea; £2 it was, most I have ever paid for a teabag!) and Bleadon.  Finished the 41 mile ride with 4 bars still showing on the battery indicator.  Pleased with that.
