Beat the storm to Burnham and back. 25

Surprised to get out today, the weather forecast was that bad, in fact we postponed the Old Gits Friday Ride to the Two Tunnels at Bath because of the forecast.  Turned out, first thing this morning, it wasn't too bad so I went to the rendezvous point at 8.30 and there were two Old Gits and a wife, all lined up and rarin' to go. We opted to risk the shortish trip to Burnham and should the need arise, the strongish wind would blow us back.  As a little treat, we went up and over Brent Knoll, a modest climb of 180'

Uphill Reserve.

We called in for tea at Lizzie's Kitchen in Apex Park but we were too early, they don't open till 10am.  Never mind, Jim knew of a little cafe, Cafe Aroma in Adam Street Burnham so we went there.  Have to say, Lizzie's bread pudding is far superior to the Cafe Aroma's, and cheaper.  It was there we heard from Andy who, by coincidence was passing within a couple of hundred yards of us so he joined us for the return leg. Made it home beating the forecasted rain and at a decent speed as well.  Passing through Uphill Nature Reserve, we collared a passing rambler to take the below photo.Uphill beacon and church in the distance.

Good ride that was. Better than being stuck indoors.
