Olds Gits v Atrocious Weather. Old Gits won. 22

It was a toss up whether to go out with the Old Gits today or use the car to meet up with the others..  The weather forecast, looking at the different web sites, varied from horrible to abysmal with gale force winds and heavy rain predicted.  Some of the club members had indicated that they would not be cycling today preferring to use their cars instead.  It didn't look too bad outside when I got up so decided to go to the meeting point and a) see how many others would turn up and b) see what the elements were actually throwing around.

It wasn't too bad going out to the meeting point although the wind was not too bad coming from the SW.  It did get a bit 'in your face' turning to go to Banwell.  There were two other Old Gits waiting at Tescos and we agreed that it was worth continuing, perhaps taking a slightly shorter route through Banwell where there might be some more waiting.   The ride out to Banwell was the most difficult of the day, with the wind gusting about, and we met another Old Git in the usual place there.  Turning towards Puxton at Banwell the wind blew us alongside the river (saw a kingfisher darting out of a bush there) before we got to Caffles.  A nice touch there, hot mince pies and they were free, gratis and for nothing.

There were four riders at the tea stop, three walking wounded and six others had driven in.  Going back to Weston it was still windy and the rain had started, fairly heavy at times.  This was one of those days where it was good to get home after the 22 miles covered.
