3cyclists go to Wootton Wawen for Eccles Cakes 34

In Leamington for a couple of days so taking the opportunity to meet up with Mick and Graham, the other members of the '3Cyclists' gang.   Cycled down to the meeting point, Gram's house and we wet our sights on the Fern Tree Farm cafe at Wootton Wawen, about  15 miles away.  Starting off through Hill Wootton  was a bit of an indicator how this ride was going to be.  The clue is in the first part of that name.

Handing over the token.

Arrived at the cafe very ready for tea and cake.   As I was the holder of the token it was my turn to pay.  Deep joy.  Originally we had settled for tea and a toasted teacake each but that order went straight out of the window when I spotted some eccles cakes on the counter. Now, Mick and I are afficianados of eccles cakes so we settled on one of those each instead of a tea cake.  Good choice, they were excellent until I saw the receipt that came with them.  £3.25 each!  I kid you not, we could have had a full English breakfast for that at some places.  Then came the process of deciding who had the token next.  It had been so long since we had done this exchange we had forgotten. 15 minutes later and with the aid of trawling through 1000s of our phone picture libraries we solved it.  It was Mick's.  Must capture this moment aided by a very helpful waitress on her second day in the job.

Garden ornaments

Not my choice but if you fancy a patriotic cow made from scrap metal this is the place to come.  There is all sorts of home made stuff here but at what price I dare not look if the eccles cakes are anything to go by.

Ended up going back to Leamington on a circular, fairly undulating route (that means there were some steepish hills to negotiate) taking in country lanes, Warwick town and Leamington.  We all clocked about the low 30 mile marker and, despite the hills, a good time was had by all.
