Seven Old Gits do Burrington Combe and Cheddar 43

Met up with 6 Old Gits for some serious training.   We went out to the Mendips and 'attacked' Burrington Combe, the biggest climb on the forthcoming Great Western Ride.  The weather is certainly on the turn now, not cold at all, a light breeze, all that was missing was a bit of sunshine.

At the top

Taken by Andy (who had arrived at the top 5 minutes earlier!) as Steve and I completed the 2 1/2 mile 800 foot climb.  It wasn't done in one go to be fair, it was necessary to stop about four times to have a breather.  Steve in the front of yours truly, not sure if that is a ghost shadowing him!

Tea and scone

After that climb, the ride across the top of the Mendips through Charterhouse and the exhilarating descent down Cheddar Gorge, it was time for refreshments.  We used the tea room that Andy and I went to last week and had the OAP special, tea and a scone £2.95.  Nicely served as you can see in china cups and pots with leaf tea and a strainer.  Service was a bit slow but the scone made up for that.
Left there and made our way back to Weston via Axbridge, Lympsham and the Uphill Nature Reserve.

That was a good workout, hard work but rewarding. We all covered over 40 miles and the 43 that I clocked up took me over the weekly target.
