Snow on the Beach! 5

This cold is not disappearing very quickly.  Minus 2 this morning and the wind is still from the east which gives a wind chill factor of -10 degrees according to the weatherman. Not going far then today.  Having said that, snowfall yesterday (unusual in the south west), meant that the beach was covered in snow.  This is not an opportunity to be missed then to get the bike out there for some photos.  Not going far mind, just down to the end of the promenade and back.

Double Bonus

With the full moon a couple of days away, the tides are going to be higher than normal and warning signs have been put out to prevent cars getting stuck in the water. Despite these warnings, some still ignore the notices, park up and go for a walk to come back to find their car partially submerged. Such fun.  The snow is still about as well, despite the sun shining, an indication of how cold it really is.

Tide Line

Last night's high tide reached this level and the sea froze at this point.  This should be overtaken later today at the next high tide which will be at 1732 (how do they work this all out).  It will still be daylight then so that will be interesting.  A bit of research shows that sea water freezes at around -2C, dependant on how salty the water is.  Also, when it freezes, much of the salt is expelled from the water or gets trapped in pockets of air within the ice but eventually returns to the sea. You learn something everyday.

Chez Nous

Couldn't resist taking one looking back at our apartment block!

Empty Beach

This will be a different picture in July.  The Grand Pier and the beach around it will be full on the sunnier days we get at that time of year.  Not many tourists about today.  A lot less snow this northern end of the beach but there is a certain amount of protection from the hills and the town.

Just over 5 miles this morning.  That was enough to be honest but every little helps toward the totals.
