Checking out Tuesday's Burnham route for the Old Gits. 24

First time out for four days, seems more like a week!  A definite rise in temperature and a shifting of the wind to the SW means that the snow is in rapid retreat.  The Old Gits are due to ride to Burnham on Sea in a couple of days so might as well make myself useful and check out the route for any snow or water hazards. Should be fine but best be prepared.

Litter

Going through the Nature Reserve at Uphill, came across this pile of rubbish which turned out to be broken snow sledges.  A few yards further on is a fairly steep hill which these must have been used on.  A couple of dog walkers commented on them and said that local people had already cleared a big pile of these from the hill a couple of days ago but this must be the detritus from yesterday's sledging.  This was bad enough but there was more at the bottom of the hill the sledgers had used.  Needless to say, the photo has been sent to the local council.

Enjoy the thaw

All the public roads were clear of snow and fine to ride on.  There were some stretches of the cycle path through the Nature Reserve that had snow on the tracks but nothing to cause a hazard to two wheelers.  Stopped to take a photo and could see yellow vests in the distance so waited for the runners to complete the picture.  Somebody else taking advantage of the thaw.

Melting rapidly

Used the same way back through the Nature Reserve and was surprised how quick the snow was disappearing. On the way out had to walk part of the way through this stretch as it was a little too deep to ride through safely.  On return, went through without stopping.  This lot should be gone by teatime.  Uphill church and beacon in the distance.

24 miles covered today.  The rate the snow is melting there will be nothing left by tomorrow and Tuesday's outing should not be in jeopardy.
