No more cycling for a bit! 3

A bit of a traumatic week this week.   Started off Monday with sickness dizzy spells and a couple of fainting episodes.  Called an ambulance but that had all settled down and they could not find anything wrong.  Tuesday morning started the same and this time ambulance men were on the case quite quickly and all their ECG fancy stuff picked up some concerning heart activity.  After a trip to Weston Hospital and a transfer to the heart unit at Bristol it was found that I had AV ( Third degree atrioventricular) block.  I think that is latin for the electrics are all screwed up in the heart muscles.  There was a need for an immediate solution which was a pacemaker and one was fitted the same day. Not too pleasant an experience with a local anaesthetic  All sorted now, no further problems except no driving for a week and no cycling for 6 weeks. After that, if all goes well, back to normal.  Roll on.

Walking rules OK

Can't sit around doing nothing all day, there is life other than Jeremy Kyle.  So for the next 6 weeks it is walking.  Might as well carry on with the blog whilst pacing around the countryside. The immediate few days will be limited to walks to and from home but once the driving 'ban' expires next week it will be further afield.  Yesterday, and today, walked down to the town along the prom, a very pleasant walk.  On the way back today, called at the Victorian Cafe on the front for tea and cake. Old habits die hard.

Donkeys

These have been part of the Weston beach since Victorian times.  There are now by-laws which give them 'workers rights'; must have one day a week off, no day more than 10 hours and not allowed to carry more than 8 stone.  You can see they have gone modern pulling Thomas the Tank around.

Actually enjoyed those walks. Over 3 miles today, 2 1/2 yesterday.

  1. Coming off cycling cold turkey, that must be hell. Five and a bit weeks to go, roll on, stroll on for the moment.

  2. It is, but has to be done and common sense has to rule. Not counting but 5 weeks to go now!
