Marine Lake Mooch 6 (ish)

Out with Grandson Tom today. Also, a trip out with the Old Gits tomorrow so not going too far. Tom is 12 and hasn't been out for a bit on a bike so must treat him gently!  Went down to the Marine Lake at Weston and a little further to Birnbeck Pier. Must say, it was a beautiful morning, if it hadn't been so chilly it could have been Spring.

Marine Lake 1

With the advent of railways to Weston super Mare, there was a large influx of visitors to the town. The sea at Weston goes out a long way and someone hit upon the idea to create an artificial beach and bathing area. A causeway was built in the 1920s near to Knightstone Island and this effectively traps the sea for the holiday makers.  Below is the view south looking towards Knightstone.  Tommy's bike on the right.

Marine Lake 2

Looking across the causeway again, this time looking north.  Look at that sky!

The Cove Cafe

Situated right at the north end of the promenade, the Cove Cafe offers a variety of snacks. We settled for an Eccles cake and a Sprite. Tommy on the right tucking in. With no wind at all, it was glorious to sit outside for 10/15 minutes.

Not a great mileage in the grand scheme of things, under 6 miles, but enough for Tommy. Must build him up.
