14th July 2014 Bidford Bash 48

Out with Graham today, going to Alcester to see a friend, then back via Bidford and Stratford. Forecast is good, the wind is in the right direction and the sun is out. Promises to be a good ride.

Two Hares!

Went out through Hatton, Norton Lindsey, Temple Grafton and Walcote to Alcester. Had tea and cake on the patio of our friend John, in Alcester, then made our way towards Bideford on Avon. On the way, took this picture of two wooden hares on a bin in the car park of the Fish pub in Wixford. No idea what they are about and apologies for the poor picture. Missed the top hat on the male figure. Looks like they might be getting married by their attire.

The Fish at Wixford

Quite a popular pub this halfway between Alcester and Bideford.. Can speak from experience, they do good food here and the setting, right by the River Avon is excellent, especially during the summer. Loads of seats and tables on the banks of the river. In Bideford itself, both of us were disappointed that the bakery was closed.

Stratford Recreational Ground

On the wind assisted ride back home, called in at the recreational ground at Stratford. The idea was to check out the memorial trees that have been planted in this corner of the field. One of these, a Tree of Heaven, has been planted in memory of Margaret Weller, my mother in law.  In the distance is the spire of the Holy Trinity Church, the site of Shakespeare's burial.

48 miles, a good ride today.
