29th May 2014 Greenway Gallop 20

Another grey day. Out with Mick for a spin around Balsall Common and to sample a new tea spot.

Greenway/Coventry Road bridge

Normally meet Mick on this bridge. A very convenient place for us. This is a fairly new bridge, for pedestrians and cyclists only and it extends the Greenway from Burton Green, through Kenilworth Common to Abbey Fields near the town centre of Kenilworth. From this point north, to Burton Green, it is shared by horses and riders so it pays to keep an eye on the road ahead!

Oakes Farm Shop and Cafe

Skirted the centre of Balsall Common and headed out on the road that leads to Knowle. As you leave the built up area, Oakes Farm is on the left. Mick had been here before and we called in for toasted tea cakes and a cuppa. Very clean, nice staff, not the cheapest place we have been to but can recommend it. We will be back!

Chickens

As we were leaving the farm Mick noticed that the chickens were taking a bit of an interest in us. They all looked a bit scratty and were perhaps nearing their best by date. Good to see they had the freedom to wander around outside of their pen and were able to forage in the nearby field.

The rain kept off for most of the ride. 20, not so muddy as yesterday, miles covered.
