1st February 2014 Norton Lindsey Loop 19

The BBC news and the met office are giving out plenty of severe weather warnings for today, wind and rain, so best go out for a ride then! Had an invite the other day to ride along with Warwickshire Police CC, who meet up now and again. They were out on a 30 miler today so, although time was limited, thought it worth joining them for part of the ride.

W.P.C.C.

We met at the Police Headquarters, which was handy for me as my house is a 1/4 mile away. Surprisingly, out of the 6 that turned up, 4 were from the regular ESCC. Word had obviously got round. The photo shows, from left to right, Val, Janet, Mark, Di and Graham with my bike. The plan was to head out to Wootton Wawen to the Yew Tree Farm cafe and return by a circular route. Mark and Graham had encountered floods on the way to the HQ and had to detour round. Not sure what we were heading for with the strong wind and rain forecast.

Rouncil Lane Ford

The first obstacle was 2 miles down the lane. This place is notorious for flooding and a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists has been built. It was definitely needed today.

I rode with the group to Norton Lindsey, encountering several places on the road covered by deep water on the way.  I then peeled off, leaving them to go and stuff their faces at the cafe. Returned home, wind assisted, through Warwick and clocked 19 miles for the day.
