3rd November 2013 Leamington Loop

A short burst today to make up the 100 for the week. A nice morning, blustery again, and the aim is to cycle around Leamington to see if the Christmas street market is on in the centre of town.

Street market on the Parade

It was. This has become an annual event boosting trade in the town on the run in to Christmas.  A lot of market traders set up the stalls, and the local shops must benefit from the extra people coming into the town. Not so sure that there are any real, value for money, bargains on offer but there is usually plenty of folk stocking up on the Christmas goodies. The bacon butties on offer at a burger bar smelt good. Tempting to say the least.

High Street closure 1

One for any ex pats who may read this. These road works have been going on for months now and will do so into the new year. Closing off one of the busiest junctions in the town has caused a few traffic problems. Best avoid the place during busy periods. This is at the bottom of Court Street looking towards the Bridges.

High Street closure 2

This is under the bridges itself. The whole lot is closed to traffic, High Street, Bath Street and Clemens Street. For those who know the town you can imagine the chaos in the area. It is all about replacing the sewers apparently. That's OK then.

The Golfer

Left Leamington and battled against the wind along the Myton Road before turning into St Nicholas Park.  This chap stands outside the Crazy Golf area which is on the site of the old open air swimming pool in the park. £3.99 if you want to have a crack at the course.

The wind blew me home from the park. Covered just over 12 miles which put me on 103 for the week. Job done.

  1. Interesting you mention "'butties" Ken. My parents from Bolton Lancashire always referred to bacon or chip butties, but in the 60s outside the house you didn't here the term much if at all. Here in Oz you have to explain what it is.
Enjoy reading your cycling forays into the local countryside.

  2. Thanks for your comments Tony. I would imagine that the word buttie would cause a few eyebrows to be raised over the pond in the USA! More on the countryside today. I have to say, it has got a lot colder lately and it was hard against the wind.
