17th November 2013 Coventry Capers

According to some newspapers we are in for a real cold spell next week, -9C in some parts, so get some some rides in methinks. Quite a pleasant morning, so out with the road bike and head to Coventry city centre. Out through Kenilworth, through the University (despite getting lost for a time), Hearsall Common into the city centre and back through Stoneleigh Village.

Coventry Market

With over 180 stalls, on a permanent indoor site, Coventry promotes its market as one of the best in the country and has won awards to prove it. There has always been a market in the city and this current site  was first used in 1958. Never been for years myself.

Green footballer

Looking a bit jaded now that autumn is fully upon us, this is one of several dotted around the city. This one has not been on this blog before, but one of his team mates have.

Sky Blue campaign

Coventry is also home to the 'Sky Blues' a football (soccer) team that is going through a bad patch at the moment. A huge financial wrangle has meant that they cannot play in their home stadium and have to play 37 miles away on a shared ground. Not good. The local fans have been very vocal about this strange set up and one of the visible protests they have made is to adorn the city with ribbons in the club colours. This bridge is down by the pedestrian walk through near the railway station.

A good spin out today.  Did some good times and was surprised that hills that 6 months ago seemed difficult to climb were not so bad today. Must be getting fitter. 20 miles today which took me up to 109 for the week. Target achieved!
