14th November 2013 Wellesbourne Wrestle

What a windy old day that was today. A real cold blow from the north-west made cycling home from Wellesbourne airfield hard work. With limited time today, arranged to meet two cycling buddies in Warwick, Andy Moss and Graham Sanders, for a quick  spin down to Wellesbourne Airfield.   Traffic in Warwick and the surrounding area was wall to wall due to a nasty accident on the M40.

M40 southbound

The view from the Longbridge footbridge looking south towards London.  The M40 is on of the main arterial roads leading from south Birmingham to west London and any closures have catastrophic effects on any roads near to the junctions concerned.  As it did this morning. The second photo shows the situation two hours later, on the way back from Wellsbourne Cafe.

It would appear that a lorry hit a van near to Warwick, and after the artic jacknifed, the motorway was closed for nearly 7 hours. Thankfully, no one was killed although the van driver is in hospital with serious injuries.

A cold ride today, 27 miles in total,  most of it it seemed into the teeth of a strongish wind.
