9th August 2013 Coventry Cruise

Ride out to the Memorial Park in Coventry today with Mick. The day started well with me texting him querying as to whether we should go as it was raining. 15 minutes later, blue sky started to peep through and the ride was on. Met up on the Coventry Road Kenilworth with the our goal the cafe in the park.

Memorial Park Cafe

A reasonable ride into Coventry, cycle path all the way, which was a bonus. Crossing the busy A45 took a couple of minutes but made it safely into the park. Circumvented the park, dodging the joggers and dog walkers, and arrived at the cafe, relieved to find it open; tea and toast were the order of the day.
Reasonable price for the nosh and very pleasant to sit outside watching a couple playing tennis.

Memorial Park Visitor Centre

A recent renovation in the park, the visitor centre offers a cafe, a golf centre and a facility for the public to hire an education room. Open between 9am and 7pm, this looks like another place to try on our travels in the future.

What it is it?

Situated alongside the Park and Ride terminus in the park is this object. Mick suggested that viewers to this blog should try and identify what it is actually used for. Add a comment if you know what its function is. Unfortunately, there are no prizes for a correct answer.

A good crop

This new concrete path is part of the new cyclepath that runs between Warwick University and the Greenway at Kenilworth. This field appeared to be bare until recently and the recent weather has been perfect for these corn crops to flourish and mature. This is maize and known in the USA as corn. This plant can grow to over 8 feet tall and is used for both human and animal consumption. In America, 40% of the crop is turned into ethanol, alcohol to you and I. No wonder animals like it.

A good ride today. The weather, despite the uncertain start, was perfect; light breeze, sunny spells and nice and warm. Another 17.7 miles to add to my log.
