1st July 2013 Roundabout Rouncil

How nice to start the day with a puncture! Got the bike out of the shed and the front tyre was as flat as a pancake that has been run over by a very heavy steamroller. Not good, especially as I had arranged to meet Mick at 9 0'clock in Kenilworth. A quick text to him, change the inner tube, and away.  5 past 9 we met up so not too bad.

No Cycling

The idea today was to take Mick on a short mystery tour through Kenilworth Castle grounds to the bridle paths that head from there, out to Hatton. Unfortunately, there is no cycling in Abbey Fields, as is clearly stated, so we had to circumvent them which meant tackling a bit of a hill on the main road. Not to worry.

Bridle path

The bridle path that runs from the Castle is a mixture of muddy trail, well surfaced track and sheep! These looked a bit menacing but the rally cry of 'Mint Sauce' soon scattered them. Unfortunately, they do leave little messages all over the place which tends to get in the tyre treads, but they have to get their own back somehow. We came out onto Rouncil Lane and headed back into Kenilworth for tea and toast at the Almanack. Free toast with a drink before 11 am so that worked out well. More so for Mick, it was his turn to pay!

We parted company just after that, and I headed home. A very pleasant 13 miles today, thank you very much.
