3rd January 2013 Mooch around Warwick

Cannot believe how mild it seems today, 50 degrees. No need for long johns and ear muffs. Decided to have a ride around Warwick town to see what photo opportunities could be found.

Guys Cliffe House
On the way into Warwick I took a detour into the grounds of Guys Cliffe House. This old house was built in 1751 on the banks of the River Avon between Warwick and Leek Wootton. In 1947 it was sold with the intention of turning it into a hotel but these plans came to nothing and the house fell into disrepair. A chapel on the site is leased to the Freemasons and that is still used today. During filming by the BBC in 1992, a serious fire occurred leaving the main house in the state it is in today

The Winning Post

Went into Warwick Town via the racecourse. That way there are no hills of any significance which is a bonus. This is the finish line on the racecourse. This photo is dedicated to my friends Rita and Lesley as this is a view that many of their backed horses never actually see.

 A Peacock

Another detour through the grounds of Warwick Castle.  There have been peacocks at the castle for centuries and it was a fortunate moment when one came walking down the car park entrance drive.

St Mary's Church

Cycling back into the town centre of Warwick, went through some of the older parts of the town. Next to the old Dolls House Museum, now a tea room, there is this lovely view of St Mary's Church.

Charter Bridge

Opened in 1996, this footbridge links the Myton Road with St Nicholas Park and Emscote. Prior to this, many schoolchildren had, to walk a long way round to get into Warwick. Just managed to catch the sun setting as I went over it. If you get a magnifying glass, you can see Warwick Castle on the horizon.

Nothing too traumatic today. A gentle ride, in much milder weather, made for a pleasant afternoon. Clocked up 11.5 miles today.
