Over the hill to Winscombe. 30

After a couple of days of real iffy weather, (not as bad as other parts of the country) went out today to have a go at some of the hills on the western end of the Mendips.  The first call was through the village of Bleadon, over the top, then Banwell, Winscombe and back through Bleadon.   Under the map below is the profile of the ride.

Going over the top at Bleadon there is a nice drop down to the M5 going through a very pleasant wooded area known as Canada Combe, reputedly one of the steepest parts around here.  Going down it today. My thoughts were , "the cool calm of Canada Combe", that just about summed it up today.

Left there and went out through Banwell stopping for tea and flapjack at Banwell Garden Centre.  Nowhere to sit outside so stayed in with all the pensioners having their roast lunch.  Felt a bit out of it to be honest despite being older than most of 'em.  Good place this, reasonably cheap and if the server thinks about it 10% off for being green ie, not getting there by car,  only on foot or a bike. Very socially responsible if you ask me.  Went through Winscombe on to the A38 and back via Cross to Bleadon.  Then the road works.  They looked very positive to me, shouting 'Keep out'. Didn't  risk trying to get through so had to cycle 4 miles round on some more steepish climbs to get about 400 yards from the closure.  Never mind, I need the exercise.

The last few miles were into a headwind but the electric bike won that duel..  Finished the day on 30 miles.  Enjoyed that outing.
