To Burnham for cheese and toast 29

Another sunny but cold day wit a NE wind a'blowing.  Left home with the intention of cycling down to Bridgwater with the wind at my back and catching the train back.  Once out there though (with loads of layers on) it wasn't too bad at all so went across the Levels to Mark and went to Burnham on Sea  instead to make it a round trip.

The Levels

This photo shows why it was  an easy decision to ditch  the idea  of  travelling home by train.   This was taken on the Somerset Levels between Rooksville and Mark, a road that is always well worth travelling along especially when it looks like this.  You see a lot of swans along here, herons can be seen fishing in the rhynes, and occasionally, little egrets can be seen mooching about the fields.  The hills in the distance are part of the Mendip chain with Crook Peak the 'pointy bit' just to the right.

Traffic Cop?

Not really. It is a bit of a dummy.   Travelling down the main road through Mark, the Causeway, this stuffed hi vis coat could be seen from half a mile away.  My first thought , seeing the yellow coat, was that it was a 'speed trap'.  Close up, that was clearly not the case but I would imagine that motorists travelling over the 30mph limit would almost certainly take their foot off the accelerator.  A very effective traffic calming mechanism. ( I was doing 29.8 mph by the way - not).

Stopped in Burnham at the Bay view Cafe and had a cup of tea and cheese on toast.  Just the job.  Travelling back to Weston it was approaching 4pm and it was decidedly colder now the clocks have gone back.  Quite chilly in fact at the end of the 29 miles.
