No wheels turning this week!

A bit frustrating to get back trouble just a couple of weeks away from, personally, the biggest event of the year, the Great Weston Ride.  Even more frustrating is the fact that this has come completely out of the blue with no rhyme or reason for it.  The last time out was last Thursday, four days ago, but it does seem to be on the mend and hopefully will see the wheels turning before the end of the week.

In the meantime, looking back through nearly 3000 photos taken over the last 6 years during roughly 1500 rides, just picked a few out that mean something to me.

Coventry Cathedral

An early one this, taken in September 2012.  The first time that a venture was made outside of the confines of the Warwickshire border into the West Midlands.  The cathedral was built in the 60s and replaced the old one bombed in the second world war.

Boris Bikes

In October 2013 ventured down to London with an cycling buddy, Mick.  We had discussed the possibility go trying out the community bikes in the city named after the mayor Boris Johnston.  We found them cheap (if you managed the time properly, but expensive if you took one for the day without regularly 'docking' it.  This made them less efficient to use but the big downside for us was the navigation through the traffic and the road systems.  Gave this a miss in the end.  This is me taking lunch in Regent's Park the only traffic free part of our day.

The Big Seven Oh!

Travelled down from Leamington for this special one.  Met up with future son in law and grandson at a service area near to the original Severn crossing bridge and cycled over to Wales and back.  No great distance involved, as I recall about 15 miles, but it was fairly symbolic cycling from one country to another on a special birthday.  Oh yes, we like Marmite.

The Old Gits

Moved to Weston super Mare in July 2014 and fortuitously found a group of like minded cyclists having a cup of tea at Caffles Garden Centre in Hewish, just to the east of Weston.  They were the Weston Old Gits Cycling Club from Weston, three of whom lived in the same apartment complex as me. I signed up and have hardly missed an outing with them since then.  This was taken on the outside decking (now gone) on the first time I went out with them on Sept 2nd 2014. The day after my birthday and to cost me tea all round.  Good timing or what!

In memory of Andy

This is some of the Emergency Services Cycling Club from the Midlands waiting at the Ricoh Arena Coventry for a group of cyclists who were undertaking a 700 mile ride from Switzerland to Birmingham in aid of a cancer appeal.  One of our members, the late Andy Moss was doing that epic ride and we joined him on the last 30 miles getting into Birmingham.  It was a privilege to have known, worked and cycled with Andy and it was a pleasure joining him on the last leg of his journey.  This was on the 29th Sep 2013

Some highlights for you.

  1. Sadly, Ken, no miles recordable for a trip down Memory Lane but what a nice way to spend some of your time whilst getting back to a bikeable condition. I hope you are soon back in the saddle. Good luck on the Great Weston. Mick
