Bridgewater - There and Back 42

Down to Bridgewater today. Last time this trip was made I caught the train back because of the wind. The plan today is to go there and back by a little roundabout route over the Somerset Levels and back through Highbridge and Burnham on Sea.

The Willow Man

This sculpture, sometimes dubbed the Angel of the South, stands alongside the M5 Motorway at Bridgewater. I am sure this has freaked out thousands of travellers along that road. There has been a housing estate built near to it now and how the local kids cope with it looming over their bedroom windows is a mystery.  First built in 2000 to mark the Millenium it is the work of local artist Serena de la Rey. Attacked by an arsonist in 2001 it was rebuilt the same year and has since had a 'haircut' in 2006. Made of 3 tons of steel frame and black maul willow it is starting to look the worse for wear now.

Morrisons

The supermarket chain has a huge disribution centre on the edge of Bridgewater.  Being so close to junction 23 of the M5 is a big advantage. Whilst travelling near to it, there was a constant stream of lorries going in and out. Another landmark that can be seen from the M5.

A good trip out today, a fraction under 42 miles in good weather.
