24th April 2014 Shaker's Shimmy 22

A ride out with the Emergency Services Cycling Club (ESCC). Unfortunately, I was really stuck for time, needing to go to Weston to see our new place, so met up with the gang at Graham's house in Leamington and rode part the way with them on their trip to the Rugby area. The day started a bit cold, especially for late April, and the decision to wear leggings and a couple of layers was a sound one.

Big Fat Pig

This was spotted (seen- not marked with a paint brush) a few weeks ago and several visits to his home, the Star and Garter Pub in Leamington, found him hiding away. Today, on the way to Graham's, caught him lurking outside so, despite being slightly late had to stop and bid him good morning.

ESCC

After the obligatory cup of tea at Graham's, we headed east out of Leamington and went out through Offchurch (did a personal best up the big hill), out towards Long Itchington where I left them at Shakers Lane, the turning to Birdingbury.  When I Googled Shakers Lane to try and and find out the origin of its name, it was presumed that I wanted to buy a house there. No thanks Google, you are too late. No wiser how the name originated.
With my bike are, from l to r,  Graham, Andy, Roger, Di and Steve.  I left them at this point and rode back home.

 The Old School

Going back through Hunningham and Cubbington, I went past this place, my first school back in 1949. The main buldings are exactly as they were in my day, but obviously been converted to mews houses. Googled this one as well to find a bit more history about the place. No, Google, I do not want to buy one!

A chilly start to the day, but the ride went well. Clocked up 22 miles today.
