9th October 2013 Scarecrow Search

Hunting scarecrows today. I spotted some the other day whilst out with my granddaughter so the mission today is to take a roundabout route to the northern side of Kenilworth and capture them before they disappear.

Stoneleigh Park Bridge

Leaving home and passing Ashow on the way to Stoneleigh village, saw this bridge just inside the Grecian Lodge entrance to Stoneleigh Abbey.  The Abbey itself was founded in 1154 but little remains of the original building. The estate was acquired by Sir Thomas Leigh, Lord Mayor of London, in 1558 and a house was built on the site of the monastary. The house still remains and is a grade 1 listed building partially open to the public at selected times.  This bridge crosses the River Avon which meanders through the estate.

Road closed (again)

Carried on towards the village of Stoneleigh only to find the road closed at the junction with Crew Lane. Oh well, turned left here and slog it up the lane, its only a 100' climb over a mile.

Scarecrows

Took a ride around Kenilworth including the Greenway at Crackley and Red Lane. In Clinton Lane, near the castle, snapped these two 'scarecrows'. It would seem the local school had a competition last weekend and these two are the remnants of that. The rest have escaped. No idea what they are supposed to be, some kind of cartoon characters I would think.

Decent ride today, no problems with the hamstring today. Nice circular route of just over 15 miles.
