9th September 2013 Lisa's ten mile trot

Today's blog is dedicated to Lisa, my niece. Lisa has been a runner, on and off, for a number of years now and has run up to 6 miles for charity. She has been keeping up the sport but with no real goal to aim for. Until recently. Recently, a very close family friend got married but did not go on honeymoon. It transpired that the bride was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 days before the wedding, had an operation, but kept it secret from all but the closest family. When Lisa heard this awful news it was the spur she needed to take on a challenge, with another close friend, for a cancer charity. So, its Birmingham half marathon here we come. With 6 weeks to go, some serious training is called for, and as an ex marathon runner (and fondest uncle) I agreed to help her through the next few weeks.

What a day!

This is Lisa, after 10.3 miles, looking pretty good. We met at a small canal car park just north of Warwick and headed north on the canal. Leaving the canal near the Central Hospital, we went through Beausale, Hasely Knob, Hasely and Hatton village before rejoining the canal back to the car park. Quite a testing route really with 3 or 4 decent hills on the circuit. The rain was not forecast either. It was pretty miserable just about all the way round so the decision to wear long training bottoms was spot on. The run went very well overall, the only hiccup was a slight twinge in the back at about 9 miles. No worries, its only pain.

An excellent day. My total mileage was 17.5 so a reasonable work out for me. The same is scheduled for next Monday with Lisa doing some intermediate runs in between.
