23rd September 2013 Training with Lisa Part III

Monday morning again, my niece Lisa's training day preparing for a half marathon. Sorted a route around Leamington taking in some fairly decent climbs so quite a good test today.  Weather is ideal for distance running so that should help.

Monster Bunny!

Met Lisa in Victoria Park and set off through Old Milverton. In the village, spotted this excellent example of topiary. A bush sculpted in the shape of a large rabbit. That should keep the foxes out of the hen house.

Another water pump!

Just a few yards further on is this water pump in the centre of the village.Nice to see someone looks after it. In my early teens I had a butcher's round, delivering meat in a bike with a huge basket on the front. The hamlet of Old Milverton was on my round and in the late 50s, it did not have a water supply, the villagers relying on this pump. Many a time have I had a drink from this. Happy days.  A water supply was piped into the village not long after this.

3 miles to go.

The route after Old Milverton was quite tough and went through Blackdown into Cubbington and back into Leamington town. Crossing over Newbold Comyn, took the chance for a photo op and rode ahead to the little bridge that leads onto the Radford Road.  This is Lisa at about 9 miles, 3 miles to go including two hills. She is smiling because I hadn't told her that last bit.

12 miles for Lisa, 20 for me. A tough route this one that she handled well. Looks good for the half marathon in 4 weeks time.
