29th August 2013 Just a quickie

My diary says a ride out today with the ESCC, meeting at Graham's house in Leamington. Unfortunately, two or three personal things have cropped up during the early afternoon so will not be able to do the 40 miler that Graham had planned. The best thing is to join in, leave them after a time, and return home.

ESCC Group

Taken in Shaker's lane, Long Itchington, from L to R, Graham with my bike, Alan, Andy and John. This was at the ten mile point and by leaving now, I will be home at the right time. Slight hiccup in the planning, the wind was straight in my face most of the way home!

Weston under Wetherley Church
  1. The church at Weston was originally built in the 12th century but rebuilt in the 13th and the tower was built in the 14th.  Weston itself lies 3 miles east of Leamington and has a population, at the last count, of about 190. It has one pub, the Bull, and no shop. It is said that some of the plotters of the infamous gunpowder plot passed through Weston on their way from London to Wales when they were fleeing from London in November 1605.  Apparently, they were on their way to Wales (via Warwick Castle where they stole fresh horses) after a meeting at Dunchurch near Rugby.

A bit short of photos today so two views of Weston Church.

Pity to miss the full ride today but still clocked 19 miles in good weather.

One more from Andy showing me what I missed today, the ruffian!  This is the Pumpkins Cafe at Brinklow which he has asked me to publish as it is such a good cafe, excellent food, very friendly staff. Recommended if you are passing.
