25th August 2013 Granddaughter's Gallop

And I thought yesterday was easy!  Carmen's turn for a ride out with Granddad today, so killed two birds with one stone and cycled into Leamington, to a pet store, to get some food for a snake we are fostering. Don't ask!  A mile and a half into the ride we had to stop for tea and cake at a garden centre before getting onto the canal. Well cycling is hard work, and you do need fuel when you are 7 years old.

Feed the ducks

We were well prepared for this, took some stale bread and fed these hungry ducks as we passed through Warwick on the way to the store. All went well until one enterprising bird decided to jump out of the water and scavenge the crumbs at Carmen's feet. She can move quick if she wants to.

The bears - again.

Mission accomplished at the pet store, cycled back a different way making use of the cycle tracks along the Myton Road. As we were not far from the school where the sculptured bears are, I took Carmen to see them, and showed her the brass beetle they are all interested in. We had a prearranged plan that should she get tired, a phone call to Grandma's Rescue Service would swing into operation and allow Carmen to finish the ride in style, in a car. Surprisingly, Carmen was well able to do the 9 mile journey and we hatched a plan to phone Grandma, pleading for help, about 50 yards from home. When she came out to the car to rescue us, what a shock she had seeing us waiting right by it.

A real easy day this, about 9 miles at an average speed of about 4 mph! We did have lots of stops though and that enabled Carmen to finish the ride in style.
