16th August 2013 Shipston Slog Part II

Didn't go out today unfortunately. Was due for a ride across country with Mick but the rain won. A few texts between each other confirmed that it was too wet to go out so put that off till next Tuesday. Weather permitting!
I took a few photos yesterday on the Shipston ride so, to catch up, here are some of them.

Bishop's Itchington

Population just over 2000, 'Bishop's' is a village 7 miles southeast of Leamington. The name comes from the fact that in medieval times most of the land was owned by the Bishop of Lichfield and the village sits on the River Itchen. This is the local post office and convenience store.

Market Place Shipston
The name Shipston comes from the Old English for Sheep-Wash town as it was once an important sheep market. It also sits on the River Stour. Situated on the A3400, midway between Stratford and Oxford, it was also an important staging post which is reflected in some of the pubs in the town, for example the Coach and Horses.
The town was commemorated by Robin Gibb in a solo album he did in the 70s. A line in there states, "Cold be my days in Shipston on Stour." This relates to his youthful experience riding horses with his brother Barry.

Sheep Street Bike Park

The seven bikes all chained together whilst we were having tea and vittles in The Bakery opposite. It might be a sleepy market town but you never know who is passing by.
If they want my bike they will have to take six others!
