18th July 2013 Willoughby Wander

Out with the Emergency Services Cycling Club today, first time for about three weeks. Just hope the knees hold out! Met at Andy's house at Southam and the plan was, a fairly easy day (thanks Andy) out to the cafe at Willoughby and back.

Long Itchington Pond

Long Itchington is a village between Southam and Coventry and gets its name from the River Itchen which runs through the village. It also boasts the largest village pond in Warwickshire.  It is a well managed pond and all manner of wildfowl can be seen on it. Last time I went through, a heron was sat nonchalantly at the side watching the world go by.  Looks like somebody has left the gate open by the way. I have just noticed, otherwise I would have closed it, keep the toddlers out.

The ESCC at Willoughby.

All lined up after breakfast. From left to right, Dave, Graham, John, my bike, Alan, Diane and Andy. Some of these struggled to get back on their machines. Just kidding. The ride was really good, a nice breeze in the face kept us reasonably cool. That was, until we actually went into the cafe. It was roasting in there.

The Peleton

I didn't take both hands off the handlebars to take this shot, well, only a bit. This is the Peleton, with me chasing, on the road to Broadwell. This captures the day really, reasonably flat route, blue sky and a nice breeze. A good day.

The crowd.

Watching the Peleton roll by just on the far side of Broadwell before the Napton turn.

A really good day, just over 27, fairly easy miles, just what the doctor ordered.
