Kenilworth Castle bridle path
This leads from Rouncil Lane to Kenilworth Castle and has been resurfaced for most of the way. It didn't look all that inviting today so left that one and went the opposite way down the track that leads to Goodrest Farm. (So named because in Tudor times, expectant mothers from Kenilworth Castle could stay there having a 'good rest' before the delivery)
Goodrest Farm
The bridle path runs through the farm itself so had the take this one. I dont think they minded me disturbing their afternoon snack. Apologies for the quality of the image. Keeping the camera inside a warm coat then taking it out into the cold is not good. Lesson learnt.
Heading towards Hatton
I didn't go much further than this, this was about 2 miles from home so a good place to turn back!
Goodrest War Defences
On the Goodrest Farmland is an anti aircraft battery built at the start of World War II to help defend Kenilworth and the surrounding towns from German bombers. There was also a P.O.W camp situated on the farm. The local historical society gives guided tours and talks about this on a regular basis.
Not a very inspiring day today. It was good to get out for a spin round even though it was only for 4 miles. The forecast for the next couple of days is not very promising either.
