An interesting ride - Ouch! 22

Out with the Old Gits today but didn't go on their usual route over the big hill at Banwell. The bigger hills are getting a bit harder now so with another couple of the chaps took an easier way through the lower part of Banwell and the Riverside.

Watch out for the mother!

In Puxton we realised we were far too early to go to Caffles Cafe so diverted towards Sandford in order to meet up with the main body of Old Gits.  Half Way down Puxton Lane we came across a family of swans, the two adults were trying to shepherd 5 cygnets down the road. 5 minutes, and 3 stationary cars later they cleared off to the left through a hedge into a rhyme. All back to normal on Puxton lane just as 10 Old Gits came from the other direction.

After coffee at Caffles we headed back to Weston and going through one of the estates, catastrophe.  A white van driver opened his door just as I was cycling past.  Unfortunately, the caught my left arm and caused a nasty gash on the forearm. Lucky to stay on the bike and the driver was very apologetic and offered to let me use his first aid kit.  He was clearly horrified at causing an accident so we left it at that and one of the Old Gits Patched me up.  Back home I rang NHS Direct to get some advice about how best to dress the 'wound' but they advised a visit to A and E to ensure it was done properly and because of my age.  How rude.  All patched up, they did a good job, so much so that I was out again the next morning for a 16 miler, reduced because it was a bit damp and quite cold.  That makes 38 for the two days.
