Catching up on the June Rides

Apologies for being a bit lax with updating the blog with my rides but I have been getting out there and maintaining above the 100 miles a week target.  Its all about doing the same rides over and over again, but this may change if I take the plunge and get an electric bike which, after a test ride today looks more than likely.  More on that later.  The highlights so far this month are :-
A bit of a dilemma this one.  Out with the Old Gits on a Tuesday ride and three of us took an 'easy route' to the coffee shop to avoid the hill you can see in the distance. Then we came across this little family, parents and 5 cygnets waddling down the road and  with several cars behind us, we were loathe to incur Dad's wrath so left them for a bit to see what they would do.  When cars approached from the opposite direction the family scuttled through the hedge on the left into the safety of the rhyne. (And to have some dinner I suspect).  This was at the end of May

On the 4th June, the first Tuesday in the month, the Old Gits went across the Somerset Levels to Burnham on Sea. On the way back we were caught at roadworks but, like good cyclists, we waited for the traffic lights to change.  Still waiting for a drop of sunshine to appear.

Another Old Git trip out.  The time, the Friday Riders who tend to go a bit further and select  different locations to make a change. Friday 14th June we went to Sweets cafe on the Somerset Levels, a very cycle friendly place that does a cracking fruit and nut cake. It was a dodgy start with full wet weather gear but it it did brighten up later  and we could pack the leggings and overshoes away.  Leaving Sweets and riding across the quiet droves, came across another swan. Must have been a male by the size of it but it treated us OK.  Shortly after this picture was taken, the heavens opened up and we were soaked before the waterproofs came out. What happened to Flaming June?

Sunday 16th June. Another dull day but no reason to stay in. In fact, a red letter today, going out to test an electric bike at a local cycle store. On the way I stopped to watch one of the annual events held on Weston Promenade; the Bin Men Races.  Teams of council and private companies race against each other loading up their wagons and by a process of elimination crown one of them the champion.  Needless to say I didn't hang about to see the end result.

Then came the exciting bit.  Trying out the potential new bike, a Cube Agree electric.  I really like the look of it, not clumpy, and not dissimilar to my current Specialized road bike.  After being shown the controls I took it out for an 8 mile circuit that included a hill that I have only been able to walk up before now.  Wow! Sold. Riding it was like being 15 years old again. This is the way forward considering some of the health issues I have been experiencing.  Will be collecting it today so watch those PBs tumble.
