Old Gits v NW wind to Burnham 31

Friday meeting up with three of the Old Gits (plus a potential new recruit) at the beach huts in Weston to take a trip out across the Somerset Levels to Shapwick Nature Reserve.  Turning up last at the rendezvous point, found the other riders huddled behind the huts, sheltering from the strong NW onshore wind.  It was quickly decided to shorten the ride by about 10 miles and just go to Burnham and Sea and back.

Overall, the weather was not too big a factor in the trip.  There were some stretches, especially in exposed areas, where it seemed quite a battle against the wind.  After tea and a snack at Wetherspoons in Burnham, a rethink of the route back kept us fairly sheltered and in fact the wind helped us in some places.  It was not as bad as we feared.  The photo shows the Old Gits going through one of the stiles that protect the nature reserve.  Not very cycle friendly, they are awkward to get through.  Some of the blokes have RADAR keys which open them but that is only worthwhile for a bigger group than we had today.

Hope this cold and wind moves on soon.  Was hoping to cover over 40 miles today but ended up doing 31 instead.
