Short one to Burnham on Sea 26

That's more like it.  I vote that the best day of the year so far.  No long johns, the big ski gloves that have been in use all year so far tucked away in the drawer till next December (hopefully) and another layer discarded.  The temperature was in double figures, very little wind, an ideal day to be out.  Time was at a bit of a premium so just took the quickest way to Burnham on Sea and only stopped for a mug of tea at the Bay View cafe.

Freshwater Mussels

Whoever manages the water  around the Somerset Levels has dramatically altered the level in the rhyme that runs along Pill Road between Rooksville and Mark.  So much so that in places there is no water at all.  What has been revealed is a lot of freshwater mussel shells, some quite large.  They all seem to be empty so where the occupants have gone or what fate has befallen them is a mystery to me.  Googled to see if they are edible for humans and this is the answer :-  'Although most species are edible, freshwater mussels are not as tasty as their saltwater relatives.  In addition, since they are long lived filter feeders, pollutants can easily settle and build up inside them making them distasteful and potentially unhealthy for human consumption. "  Best leave them alone then.

Here's one that somehow made it to the roadside.  Took this one home to show the grandkids.

Long may this weather keep up.  Thoroughly enjoyed the 26 miles covered.
