Old gits in the rain, the wind, and with a puncture! 20

Not a good day today.  It was cold, it was windy and there was rain, quite heavy at times.  Its times like this that knitting would be a better hobby.  Just 4 Old Gits started the ride, two had punctures and because of the conditions, the route was shortened.

Shelter!

Within a couple of miles, yours truly was riding on a flat tyre.  Not a good start.  It was raining heavily at this time but fortunately it happened about 20 yards from a little garage on the Locking Road.  They offered some shelter despite them having their own problems with water flooding into the place.  As you can see, I had to retrieve my stuff from the large puddle that had formed.  Hit a snag when no tyre levers were in the saddle pack.  They lent me a couple of screwdrivers but they were not satisfactory so a couple of spoons from the canteen were borrowed and they did the trick.  Couldn't find the problem which is always a bit worrying.  By the time it was done, the rain had almost stopped and I was back on the road.  Just realised the spoons had been left on the side with the handles all bent.  Must call in to apologise for not straightening them and also thank them again for the very welcome cup of tea they made.

When needs must

Caught up with the other three at Caffles garden centre where it was nice to get warm. There were more Old Gits driving to the place than rode which indicates how bad it was today.  6 Drivers versus 4 riders.  One highlight today was, it was somebody's birthday so free tea all round.  Pictured is the poor man's overshoes.  Necessity is the mother of invention and this Old Git ( I won't mention George by name) utilised a couple of carrier bags to keep his feet dry.  Apparently they were 100% effective which makes a mockery of us with expensive overshoes.  Not very suitable for shoes with cleats though.  On setting out from the cafe to get home, another Old Git had a puncture but one of the drivers gave him a lift home.

Glad to get home to soup and hot buttered toast.  Covered a fraction under 20 miles today.
