Windy back from Willoughby 37

Met up with Graham today for a ride out whilst in Leamington, unfortunately Mick has a nasty cold and couldn't make, he has the token too!  Decided to ride out to Willoughby to 'Dead Cat Cafe' on the A45 as it was a reasonable morning, not too windy, no rain.

Victoria Reigns

Went out through Cubbington, Birdingbury, and Grandborough to Willoughby.  In Hill Road spotted this post box that looked as if it had been hit by a car.  Marks on the road showed someone went out of control on the nearby bend and whacked Queen Victoria's letter box and nearly took it out of the ground. To think it has stood here for at least 118 years and now this.  We were tempted to put it upright again but could forsee it falling over completely.  Best leave well alone.  Carry on to the cafe for tea and toast.

Leaving the cafe we realised the wind had increased a lot and the 16 miles it took to get back to Leamington was really hard. Like riding up one long hill with the wind directly in our faces.  The occasional cover from hedges helped but I found those 16 miles some of the hardest ridden to date.  Covered 37 in total today.

  1. Sorry I couldn’t join you yesterday and without doubt I would have suffered heading back in that wind. As soon as I saw the photograph of the letter box my thoughts were exactly the same as yours. - let’s put it back upright! Glad to see common sense prevailed, however, and you left well alone! Mick

  2. It was tempting to be honest Mick. Certainly not a day to be in the weather if you are under the weather.
