15th December 2013 Wellesbourne Wobble

Push today to do a personal best for miles covered in a week. A trip to Wellesbourne Airfield should cover that nicely.

Warwick Castle

Going through Warwick on the way to the airfield, took a slight detour to the main ticket office at Warwick Castle. The office had not opened yet but there were plenty of tourists milling about waiting for the Office to open. The Castle is now owned by Madame Tussauds and is one of the best kept castles in England. Well worth a visit.

Flood warning
After a slight detour around Wellesbourne village, ended up at the airfield where tea and a big slab of coffee and walnut cake went down very well. This was the halfway point of today's ride and after heading in to the wind for the first section, looking forward to a wind assisted ride home. Leaving the airfield and going through Hampton Lucy, spotted this flood warning sign. It occurred to me, must give this road a miss should there be heavy rain and floods in the future!

                                                          Hampton Lucy River Bridge

I like the light on this photo. The plaque on the brickwork states this bridge was donated to the village by the rector, a Rev. Lucy, in 1829. There has also been a major overhaul in the 1920s. The river is the River Avon.

25 miles today taking the total for the week to 137, 15 better than the previous PB. I forgot to mention yesterday as well, that the 5000 mile mark was passed on the road bike.
