12th October 2013 Hampton Lucy Loop

Took a spin to Charlecote today to make up the mileage to just over a 100 for the week. Waited for the rain to stop and had a good hour and a half in sunshine. Bonus. Didn't think there would be much to photograph as this is a popular route of mine.

Bridge over the M40
Very considerate of the authorities to build this foot/cycle path over the M40. It cuts out the very busy (and dangerous) junction where the A46 crosses the M40. This path actually follows the old road where it forked off the Stratford Road at Warwick and went through Barford.

The Antelope

This pub is in the Saltisford in Warwick and I spotted this artist decorating the end wall of the place. The pub is named after the Royal Warwickshire Regiment whose mascot was an antelope called Bobby. The Regiment had barracks nearby and no doubt would have used this place in their hay day. The painting itself depicts the Battle of Echalar. In Northern Spain, at the Heights of Echalar, in August 1813, the Duke of Wellington watched the regiment's attack against 6,000 French in rugged positions in the mountains and described it as, "The most gallant and the finest thing he had ever witnessed." Considering the Duke had been in 60 battles, a fine accolade indeed.
Must go in the pub, it has some good reports on the interweb.

A good autumnal ride today for a total of 21.5 miles.
