20th August 2013 Locks Loop

Out today with Mick for a spin across the fields to the cafe at Hatton Locks. We met up at Kenilworth Castle and used the bridle path which runs directly from there to Hatton itself.  The recent good weather  ensures the paths are nice and dry although the majority of the way is a good gravel surface.

Hatton Top Lock

This is the first of a flight of 21 locks down into Warwick and this shot was taken from outside the cafe. Tea and a toasted tea cake and toast was the order of the day and we sat outside watching the world go by although there was little traffic on the canal itself. With the time and distance in mind, we agreed that we would go back, roughly the same way, as opposed to travelling down the canal to Warwick and back into Kenilworth via that route.

Harvesting

On the way to the cafe we had commented how well the corn was looking in the fields and with a promised spell of good weather the farmers would be getting the combines out. A good subject for a photo perhaps if the opportunity arose. And low and behold it did. Travelling back from the cafe along Brownley Green Lane there was Farmer Giles, in a huge combine harvester, getting the corn in. Result!

A good ride today, excellent weather and the two hours we spent doing the 16 miles (for me at any rate, Mick had a bit further to travel) went by very quickly.
