23rd June 2013 Canal Capers

First spin out for a couple of days. This is the start of a take it easy regime so, a nice flat run along the canal.

Luxury Lucy

This was a boat and a half. Left home and picked up the canal just outside Warwick and went east through Leamington towards Offchurch. Moored near to Radford was this magnificent boat. 'Lucy'. It seemed twice as wide as the other narrowboats (I was told off the other day for calling them barges) and was finished to a very high quality. I wasn't being nosy but could not help glancing in the windows and seeing how well it was furnished inside. The cost of hiring this must be astronomical; checking on the internet was fruitless, there are hundreds of the things called Lucy!

Tachbrook Road bridge

Cycling back from Offchurch, caught this narrowboat going through the bridge that carries the Tachbrook Road Leamington over the Grand Union Canal. As this was next to the old gas works it was known as Gas Hill. This looks a nice way to spend a Sunday morning.

Charity Walk

Getting off the canal and heading for home, I was joined by hundreds of charity walkers. This is a small bunch of them, suitably attired. Their route was from Warwick to Coventry Cathedral and the aim was to raise money for babies and children's charities. Looking at the state of some of them, best of luck on the ten mile hike!

Get off my track!

Fair play for their efforts but next time leave me room to ride on the cycle path. On second thoughts, once a year will not hurt.

An easy 13 miler today and the knees held up OK. Started on Glucosamide today, so hoping that will have a positive affect in the weeks to come.
