Old Gits go to Burnham.

Tuesday was Old Gits Day and as it was the first Tuesday in the month it was over the Somerset Levels.  More about that later.  Monday was a particularly nice day after lunch so a quick text to a couple of Gits saw us riding, would you believe, over the Somerset Levels.  Not too much wind, a fairly clear sky, our ride took us down to Rich's Cider Farm near Highbridge.

Cider Farm

After a visit here some 12 months ago when I walked out over the price of a cup of tea, I made a mental note to give this place a miss. This Monday trip, I relented and the three of us called in after 17 miles to wet our whistles.  The price for a cup of tea had now risen over 30% to £2 so I politely expressed my displeasure at this rise but as I had started the process let the lady with the upturned face complete the order.  She had certainly lost her sense of humour.  When she brought to order outside (into the sunshine) she did, at least, agree to take our photo.  A very clever photographer, she managed to blur my face!  Definitely not going there again.

Old Gits to Burnham.

This was yesterday, Tuesday.  The normal first Tuesday in the month outing over the Levels to Burnham.  15 Old Gits met on the promenade on a wet and windy morning.  Not very pleasant at all. We decided to go straight to the Reeds Hotel at Burnham, with a following wind, as the forecast was drier, later. That worked out quite well as the sun was shining as we left after tea and toast.  On the return leg, we split into two groups, 9 going a direct way back, into the wind. 6, including my self, took a longer way back and included a visit to the Community Cafe held in the Cricket Pavilion at Lympsham.  More tea and cake, not hard to be tempted when tea is 50 pence, cake, all home made, was a £1.  Sheltered from the cool wind, we sat out in the sunshine and we had to admit, it was hard to get going again!

Two good rides, 27 on the Monday, just a fraction under 28 on the Tuesday.  Plans have been made for next Friday, a trip from Bristol to Bath along the old railway line.  Looking forward to that.
