Boxing Day ride for the Old Gits to Burnham 21

Boxing Day on a Tuesday this year, the Old Gits must be going out then.  Many had family commitments and just three committed to going out today.  With a lack of open tea spots the obvious choice was take a trip to Burnham, Wetherspoons have been confirmed as being open.  Meeting up at the Beach Huts on the promenade, one didn't make it and another turned up without updating the OG's website.  So it was still three.  We all agreed with it being a holiday today and we all had family commitments later in the day , a dash to the Reeds Hotel and back would fit the bill.

At the Reeds Hotel

The roads were very wet after overnight rain, in places the puddles reached halfway across the road.  The weather was as forecast, possible sun, a strongish SW wind and the odd shower. (We had a minuscule one.)  It was a steady wind into our faces on the way but on our backs returning.  Coffees all round at Reeds, I could not resist a bagel and cream cheese, but once that was polished off we set off back to Weston.  The total time out was possibly the quickest time this ride had been done but we were all on roads bikes and there was an incentive not to hang about. We left the Beach Huts just before 0900 and I got back about 11.15.  The photo shows John in the middle, Colin on the right.  Managed to persuade a waitress to click the shutter.

I had the shortest journey today, over 21 miles; Colin had the longest, he cycled in from Churchill and clocked 39.9 miles.

  1. Good to see you out and about on Boxing Day, Ken. Your weather seems similar to what I encountered down in Surrey. Really good to be out there! Mick
