21st December 2012

Had a good ride today. Met up with a friend, Graham Sanders, another keen cyclist, for a longer run. The weather has changed since yesterday, no rain, not so cold and a moderate breeze. Decided to head out through Barford, around Wellesbourne with a compulsory stop at the airfield cafe. With all the recent rain not too sure if some of the roads will be passable so only one way to find out.

Hampton Lucy

No problems here. We rode alongside the River Avon from Barford to Charlecote and it was obvious that the river had burst it's banks and flooded the fields. This shot is from the river bridge in Hampton Lucy itself and the fields are well covered. The roads were open in this area so thankfully we did not have to backtrack at all.

Barford Telephone Box

From Hampton Lucy, through Charlecote, and the long way round to the Airfield Cafe at Wellesbourne. A cup of tea and a big slab of fruit cake went down very well. There were a few ex colleagues in there, noshing on big breakfasts, and it was good to catch up with them. It seems to be a popular place with both serving and retired Police Officers.  Headed back home through Barford and going past the telephone box saw a Christmas tree in there. It has been mentioned on here before that the local heritage group have bought the phone box and decorate it according to the season. Had to be a tree I suppose.

Back home through Warwick via the racecourse we agreed that it had been a good ride out today. Graham had chosen the route and being fairly flat suited me. In all we did just over 26 miles in decent weather on, in the main, quiet roads. Thanks for a good one mate.
