Greenway, Burton Green
Met up, nice and early, near Common Lane Kenilworth and cycled along the Greenway to Balsall Common. That part went well, then we had the task of getting off the disused railway into Balsall itself. This is where the plan failed. The cycle path ended and the footpath continued but not for bikes. The track became very rough and it was difficult to negotiate the kissing gates with our bikes. So we back tracked to Cromwell Lane and rode into Balsall Common on the road. On the Greenway, saw this old sign showing the inclination of the railway that was in terms of how steep the gradient was. To the left it slopes down 1' in 90' and to the right rises 1' in 302'. For cyclists, it means it is easier going left than right!
Hole in the Wall
Made it to Balsall Common where we had tea and toast at a bakery in the main street, La Delicia. The toast was thick, fresh bread and delicious. Can certainly recommend it for a quick snack, very reasonable. The staff were very accommodating as well. Before going there however, it was my turn to pay so needed to go to the Hole in the Wall at the nearby garage.
Sorry about the lack of interesting pictures today, never came across anything particularly new. Looking back I should have snapped the dead end we came to, and the sign a mile before hand that said no exit for cyclists and horses. Durr! A good ride out nonetheless, just over 21 miles.
