Busy day today with jobs, including taking a car in for repair. Put the mountain bike on the back of it and left the car in Warwick. Ideal day for a gentle ride home along the canal and bridle paths.
A host of golden daffodils.
I have been after this picture for a month now! The daffodils are opposite the Volvo complex on the Woodloes and they have been poking their heads up for some time now. They get so far, the cold wind gets up, and they retreat. At last, spring seems to have arrived and they have come out in celebration.
The Ugly Bridge
Headed north on the canal from the Woodloes and tackled the 21 locks that lead up to Hatton top lock. This is Ugly Bridge. It carries the Ugly Bridge Road over the canal from the Birmingham Road near to the Shell Garage. It is not a very pretty bridge, it just seems a bit unkind to call it ugly. In case you are wondering, the bike is not balanced on the edge of the canal. It is propped up against a mooring ring. With the gusty wind, this was a bit risky, and I was ready to leap forward and stop it falling in. Who dares wins.
Farm Cottage
Had to call in at the Hatton Locks Cafe for a cup of tea and a bite to eat. Then headed for the lanes and bridle paths that led back to Leek Wootton. Leaving the main road, and heading up Brownley Green Lane, these old farm cottages are a striking sight at the top of the hill. It was then a fairly easy few miles back over the fields to home.
A gentle run of 8.4 miles. very enjoyable.
