Took the bike on the back of the car to Stratford, parked in the Fisherman's Car Park and took a spin around the town and then out to Long Marston. The weather has definitely brightened up and only had three layers on!
Lady Macbeth
Started off by visiting the Shakespearean statues in Bancroft Gardens. The other three have been 'done'; this is the last to appear in this blog, Lady Macbeth. One of Shakespeare's villains she caused havoc and mayhem in the pursuit of power.
Holy Trinity Church Stratford
Moving on through the town, I passed the Holy Trinity Church. A church on this site was first mentioned in 845AD but the present limestone building was started in 1210. Shakespeare is buried here, not for his prowess as a playwright, but because his father bought him the right under a law passed by Henry VIII. It is thought that this is the most visited Parish Church in England.
The Salmon Tale
This pub is on the Evesham Road out of Stratford. Quite a nice old building. With the sun shining, it was tempting to pop in for a sasparilla but I resisted.
Tom O'Hares bench
On such a nice day today, a trip down the Greenway is called for. On previous occasions I have passed this bench and noticed that it is dedicated to a Tom O'Hare. I used to work with a Maggie O'Hare and often wondered if they were related. Just by chance I spoke to her recently and asked her. Tom was her father and had died a few years ago. This bench was bought by the family and located here. It is at a slight angle so that users are facing those cottages over the next field. That was their family home when they were younger. What a lovely thought.
A good ride today. 14 miles just over. On the way to Stratford it poured down. Nice and sunny whilst I was there. On the way back it poured down. With such luck, I have bought a lottery ticket for tonight.
Any luck on the lottery KK?
