8th February 2013 Hunningham

A much better day today, still a stiffish breeze, but good for a ride. I have found a group that meet on a Tuesday for a spin out and in 2 weeks time they will be starting at a farm shop in Hunningham. Not sure about riding 8 miles or so to meet up, and then do a longish ride so a chance today to check that out. The planned venue is Hill Top Farm at Hunningham.

Chesford Hotel Kenilworth

On the way to Hunningham, about a mile from my home, is the Chesford Hotel. More upmarket than the majority of hotels in this area, it does have a reasonable name. Never stayed there of course, being so close, but have eaten in the restaurant and the service and food have been good. They do a lot of corporate work, in fact there was some function on today; you could tell by all the smokers puffing away outside in the car park. Foolish people. (This from a born again breather.)

The Stag at Offchurch

Going out through Cubbington, on the Welsh Road, the Stag pub is in the centre of the village of Offchurch. Not a bad place I have been told, but cannot speak from experience.  The Welsh Road, by the way, is called that because farmers from North Wales would drive their sheep to the London markets along this way in medieval times.

Hill Top Farm Hunningham

Reached my destination. It was on the Fosse Way, just on the Stowe side of the Hunningham crossroads. This was just over 8 miles from home, some of those miles were a bit hilly, so may have to have a think about meeting up at this place.  Just had to try out the culinary delights, and I have to say, the eccles cake was superb. At £2.50, a bit pricey, but it was delish. May have to come back and check this out again.
By coincidence, my grandaughter will be moving near here shortly and her husband suffers occasionally from hay fever. I did check if they sold local honey, which may well help manage hay fever, and they do. I know someone else will be calling in here.

Red Lion at Hunningham

This is a nice pub.  Been here a few times and can never fault it. Lovely in the summer but it does get busy.  It is right alongside the River Leam and can be prone to flooding, especially the car park.

A good ride today. Just over 17 1/2 in total, more difficult going back with the breeze in your face. Certainly worth doing again, and if it is summer, may well have to stop at the Red Lion for refreshments.
