8th January 2013 Stratford upon Avon

Another good cycling day according to the weather forecast so, despite a long ride yesterday, set my sights on a trip to Stratford upon Avon. Checked out the maps and sorted out what looks to be a relatively flat route with the wind behind me on the way home. Who could ask for better.
Hampton Lucy

Going through Warwick and Barford, took the back lane to Hampton Lucy on the way to Stratford.  A quaint little village this, the Boar's Head is the local pub, and although very tempting to go in and have a drink must press on. Perhaps in the summer it would be pleasant to sip an orange juice in the garden here. This was at about the 10 mile mark, and debated whether to continue the next 4 miles to Stratford or not. It seemed a big ask after yesterday's long haul but having got this far decided to press on.

Baguette Barge Stratford

Bancroft Gardens in the middle of Stratford. There is a canal basin and marina right near the centre of town and this tea stop would be very welcome. This was about the half way point and the barge was not open! Outrageous! Will have to press on to the Airfield Cafe at Wellesbourne now. It's a hard life.

"Alas poor Yorick

I knew him Horatio, he was a cyclist".  In Bancroft Gardens is a large memorial to Shakespeare surrounded by various famous characters from the plays. This is Hamlet talking to a skull saying, "Who put this bike on my foot?"

One for my friend John

Left Stratford and went home via Tiddington and Wellesbourne. This second half is relatively flat which is a bonus. Just along the Tiddington Road is the golf club that my best friend is a member of. This one is for him.

Not too much further on was Wellesbourne and the cafe. Could not resist calling in and having a bacon sandwich and a big mug of tea. Much needed I have to say, and helped me get home!  It was a good ride today, 31.2 miles, more than I intended but very satisfying now its done.
