17th January 2013 Hatton Locks

Cold old day today, made worse by an east wind. The forecast for tomorrow is thick snow, possibly 10 cms. 2 1/2 inches. (Please note, American and Canadian readers, thick for us!)  Best get a ride in today whilst the roads are clear.  Happy birthday to my twins today, 47 years old. Time flies when you are busy!

Hatton Top Lock

A bit too cold to stop and take pictures today. once the gloves are off, it will be difficult to get the fingers warm again. Both of these pictures taken just yards from the cafe at Hatton Locks where there will be a toasted tea cake and a cup of tea to be had.  An added bonus, at the half way mark, it is always warm in there.

Old Piling Boat

Not used any more, other than as a tourist attraction, and for little monsters to clamber all over, this old piling barge would have been used by maintenance crews to shore up, and repair, the piles that form the edges of the canals.

A short ride today, just a fraction under 13 miles. Whilst sitting in the cafe enjoying the tea cake, it started to snow, only a little, but that was the signal to head back home.  It stopped after a short time but better safe than sorry.
